Does this size make any differance in optics or light transmission?

from what i undrestand the 30mm can transmit more light and can be made more compact. some of my friends have um and they all swear by the light transmission of 30mm tubes. my leupolds are a bit harder to see out of at dusk compaired to theirs.

My thoughts on this...

The biggest advantage of a 30mm tube is the amount of elevation and windage adjustment.

The quality of the lens and lens coating has more to do with light transmission than size.

For compactness I prefer a 1" tube. For "black rifle Ima sniper look" the 30mm has it.

I don't know all the techie details, but I know that I find my Bushnell 1.5-6 w/30mm tube is just goregous to look through. I'd recommend one to anyone in a heartbeat.

Probably pretty close. Mine is a Bushnell Trophy 1.5-6 x 44mm with a 30mm tube and the european recticle (German #4 I think it is). Bushnell doesn't normally sell them in the north american market (or so I was told), but SIRMailorder has them for $184. It's easily as sharp and bright as scopes costing twice that much (and more) that I've looked through. If I hada been paying attention, it was on sale right before Christmas. :(

Oh well...
