I've seen a couple covey's of quail in my area over the last few years. I've thought about hunting them but never have. They are the california ones with the little thinga ma bob on top of their head. Anyone hunt them?

I've never hunted California Quail (thingamabob on the head) but there is a season in regions 1-1 to 1-5 on lower Vancouver Island. There is no season for mountain quail so I guess you'll have to make sure what is in your area and be quick to identify the birds

Nice little covey of "thingamabob-on-the-head" birds at the Vic Bowmen Club. Cute little budgers too.

I dont have to hunt too hard for them as lots of them bash their brains out on my kitchen window. We have hundreds of them around Oliver but most of them seem to hang around town.I wonder if it is wrong to eat the ones that I pick up off the ground if the season is closed.I guess that I will just keep that to myself but they make a mighty fine stew.Got to keep my windows clean.

that thing on their head is called a plume, the California quail was introduced in BC in the 19th century, the mountain quail was introduced early in the last half of the 19th century. and the bob white quail was introduced into BC , very early in the 20th century

the info im getting is out of wildlife of british columbia, copyright 1972. it says the bob white did fairly well initialy. and disapered after a few years. i thought there was a season in langley , but i could be mistaken. there was a season in area 2-4 in 1996. oct-7 to nov-12, 5(15) i was right after all.

I got news for the experts, there is a healthy population of Bobwhites in the Traders Cove area near Kelowna and I used to see them occasionally near Ft. Langley in Glen Valley. Fred

looking at 1996 region 2 it says bobwhite quail, and in region 8 it just says quail, i wonder if that means any quail. in 2005 in region 8 it also says quail.i thought i seen some up around cache creek area a few years ago to( bob whites) that is.

Kelowna is in Region 8. I had to look in the regs but according to it there is no open Quail in either 2 or 3. Fred
