I was wondering what other scope measurments are good, currently i have 3x9x40.

Im looking at possibly buying the bushnel dusk to dawn scope.

depends on what kind of shooting you're doing

on a 270 or 30-06, a straight fixed 4x33 is not a bad choice for huning.

the 3-9x40mm is a very versatile scope for hunting and shooting paper

Firebird is 100% correct...depends on what you want to do with it...what you want to put it on and the biggy how much you want to spend...

Spend the extra $30 and get a Bushnell Trophy $119 at Wholesale. A much better scope IMO. I was comparing them and I found Trophy had better clarity.

Fixed power is fine, but I find that there's not much difference between a fixed power scope an equivalent variable. The 3-9x40 usually offers the most bang for the buck, at any price range.

The only Bushnells worth considering are the elite 3200 and 4200 series. When a Fognell messes up a hunt, you'll wish you would have spent a little more money.

Yes I want to mount it o my 270 win. I want to be able to hunt deer, and possibly elk or moose. I want keep the price range under $200.

So the good ones are bushnel 3200 and 4200 series, and the bushnel Trophy. But are these all 3-9x40?

I have a Trophy on one of my guns and and there is no way that its clearier then the Dawn to Dusk and also the Dawn to Dusk has never once fogged on me either even in the worst weather never fogged , If you want a real good scope maby look into something used like a older Leupy gold ring 3X9(my all time fav scope I have on my 7MM) are a Elite 3200 , 3x9's are good due to if you walk the bush you can turn the power down , but if are sitting watching a slash turn the power up , It's all on what feels good to you'r eyes and such , all Bushnell ,leupold,Burris and such are good brands so just shop around.

I was looking around and I think I am going to buy a Bushnell Dusk and Dawn either in 3-9x40 or 4-12x40.

40mm at 12x gives you only 3.3mm of exit pupil, which is getting a bit too small for low light, 3-9 might be better overall, and I think it costs a little less.

The power and size of the front lens are not as important as the quality of the scope.

Buy the highest quality you can afford. A high quality 4 power at $250 would be much better buy than a less quality variable at $250.

Guntech has it right!
Icpaintballer,
Since you live and hunt on the Island you want WATER PROOF!!!
Leupold does this better than any other....I have several failures to back this up.
You are far better off with a fixed 4 power than a variable Bushnell.
If you hunted only in the interior, then perhaps you could get away with a lower end Bushnell.

Bushnell+Vancouver Island=Fog+Failure

X-man incase u didnt notice i wanna keep the price range under $200, i dont think leupold makes a scope in my price range.

The bushnell Dusk and Dawn is water and fog proof.

Ummm ..My scope (Dawn to dusk) has never fogged at all on the island , even when I had the worst rain storm ever hit camp on the coast .. Fog on the scope is the last thing Im worrying about when im hunting .

dayto where did u get ur dawn to dusk? and how much u pay for it?

I learned my lesson the hardway, twice. A low end Tasco and a Bushnell both cost me deer. They fogged on the inside even after working flawlessly in pouring rain on previous trips. I recall my zero wandering off on the Tasco which required me having to check it and then never having 100% confidence in it. Could have been mounts, don't cheap out on those either.

There is nothing wrong with buying a used Leupold. There warranty is lifetime and second to none, serviceable in Canada. Scratches on the tube don't matter. You should be able to pick up a Leupold M8 fixed power in 4 or 6X or a VXII in 3x9 for $200-250.

They sell them at Wally World. But I think you can get them a little cheaper at Wholesale Sports. wholesalesports.com or S.I.R. sirmailorder.ca

Sometimes the shipping charges make it about the same price as buying local though.

Yup. They're out of the 4-12x right now, but I'm pretty sure they got the 3-9x.We're talking Langford Wally World. Don't know about downtown Victoria, never go there.

Do yourself a big favor and get the one with the BDC. you will never be sorry once you try it, trust me on this as I have that new one and an older Banner from before rainguard and all the other fancy stuff. Fred

BDC = Bullet Drop Compensator. On your .270 PBZ is about 4.2 inches high at 100 yrd. PBZ is 352 yrds using 130 Silvertips and 372 using 150 Partition Gold taken from the Nov issue of Outdoor Life. IMO no need for BDC. I have been told dont bother with AO on scopes or BDC, great for range but no good for hunting. How true that is maybe these fellas can enlighten us just an opinion from one of my buddies..

AO and BDC are kinda frills...Bushnell Elite 3200 2-7x 32 is $236 at SIR, a bit over your budget, but not much.

If I had $200 for a hunting scope, I'd get a used Leupold M8 4x.

Good advice on scopes here:

I got a Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn 3x9 for Christmas. I am going to exchange it next week (I already have too many scopes) but if someone wants to save me the hassle and are willing to pick it up in West Victoria I'll take $110. Wholesale sports lists it for $96.95.

I had a 6-18 banner dusk till dawn scope with a 50 mm lens I had it on my 22-250 it seemed to work pretty good I think I paid around 165 for it in town here. After a while I went to the trophy 5-15 power (i think thats what it is and i don't feel like opening the safe to look) with a 40 mm lens. Anyway i don't think that the trophy is better than the banner. I sold the banner to one of my buddies and he has it on his 7mm rem mag and it shoots awesome.
