I saw and shot more grouse yesterday than I have since I was 12 years old. There is a serious bonanza of spruce grouse this year in region7, but I did find a covey of seven ruffies, of which I shot two and let three walk, as they wouldn't flush and I already had five spruce in the bag.

Two double wingshot spruce grouse, a single runner and a double wingshot on ruffies makes for one hell of a day.

Nice work PGK! Nice work indeed! Great pics too, gives me some more inspiration for next time :)

Did you really shoot six out of seven of them birds on the wing?

Congrats again, and thanks for sharing:)

Four were spruce grouse, so I had to scratch them up at pretty close range. 10y shots are pretty much a cinch...
The two ruffies were a lucky break. They timed their flushes just perfect at about 15y, going straight away down the road. Hard to miss...lucky day.

Hell PGK, a grouse on the wing is never an "easy" shot. Congrats. The forest service should start paying me for all the tree pruning I do, while hunting grouse, specially on ruffed grouse:) If you haven't already, you should take up Skeet, and Sporting Clays when you aren't out hunting:)

i was out this weekend around pg and did really good as well. saw way more grouse in one day than i did the entire season last year.

PGK, don't you think using a shotgun for grouse is cheating a bit:lol::eek::smile::eek:

.22lr for me thanks;)

Using a 12ga would be cheating...using a 410 is something kin to masochism...try hitting them in the air with a 22 ;) Did that once too!

Nice Breasts you've got there, PGK!:)

I saw a pile of birds as well so far this yr. Seems like a bumper crop'o'birds. Made driving pretty slow as I had to keep stopping to chase chickens:).

Good pics!

There a serious Grouse situation everywhere I've been this season! One of the perks of the dry year... All regions should've had 2 hatches.
