My son has recently moved to Calgary and would like to do some bowhunting. He is 21 and has never had a license before but has done a lot of tag along hunting with me over the years. I know that here in BC you have to pass the CORE prior to being issued a license but I don't know what the requirements are in Alberta. I would assume that he would have to take a Hunter Traing course. If so where would he look into this. Also, how long does he have to live there to be eligible to apply for a license. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Adult first time hunters that have never held a licence in Alberta or anywhere else have an option of completeing the Alberta Conservation and hunter education course, or passing the Alberta Hunter Competency exam.

He can do the course on line or at home call this # 866 852 4342 and ask for home study course $70. I think you need to be 6 mos.

AHEIA does offer the course for "free" at the education centre, however donations are greatly welcomed.
