Hunted a cornfield today and must have had close to 200 ducks get out of the slough at the end of the field as we walked in. We got set up quickly with birds circling us as we set up and it didn't take long to get the first bird.
With that shot, more birds got up farther down the slough and we called some in.
Pretty steady shooting and nice big birds. The greenheads are getting really nice and we had a few drake pintail come in too but passed on them (may take a nice drake later to mount though).
No geese coming in but there were some high flying flocks passing by (migrating birds, I suppose). Lots of corn left on the ground in our field so I expect good shooting for a while yet. Hope the geese find this field by next weekend!

P.S. The water in the Pitt marsh is really high and lots of water for the birds in fields so I suspect the number of birds around there will be down until things dry up (doesn't look good this week).

Thnx for the report Dano ... good to hear the rain has improved the field shooting. If they're getting fat then it's time I got my act in gear.

The birds are still heavy in the field. Good to see ducks rising in your headlights as you pull up!
Lots of mallards and we even had a nice flock of geese come by and give us a look. Too bad I was too lazy to pack out any goose decoys today.... I'll have them tommorrow though!
Anyone else notice a large number of birds getting hit with steel shot and feathers flying off but the bird flys off? I can't belive how often it happens, much more than with steel shot.
