I've been down (big time) the last couple of days with the "The Crud" and have spent this time digging around in old photo's.

Stumbled on to this one:

I'm looking for a little help in ID'ing this fella. I say Blacktail..... What about you?

Definitely a Hybrid!!!!

I'd take him to be a Blacktail. Just based on the rump as there's not enough rack to help with the decision.

The rack looks about average size for a blacktail!

Mr Dean--- to bring up such an old discussion shows you're not over the crud yet--- and yes, of course it is the wiley 2 pronged young immy moose we read about but never see. Thanks for the great pic!

Really lookin' for feedback on this.

What gets me; is that *if* it is a blacktail,,, he's WAY out of his 'supposed' home range.

I tell veterans and long time locals about this deer and they assume that because I'm from the LML, I must suffer from the fumes of all the crack/meth users.

..... Or I'm just another Dumb City-Slicker.

And I see the face of a Whitey....... I think? Pick was taken in the hight of summer (July 30th). If this helps.

I call BT mainly because of the rump and its inner ear colouring.

It looks like a muledeer with the summer coat, the ears look a little too big for a true blacktail.

It is a Blacktail or cross. What is out of there range? If what you mean by out of his range is the b&c and p&y borders they go way past them but they also start mixing with mule deer.

Next time throw a rock at him and see if he'll give you a tail flag--like a whitey. In the PG area we get a few whitetails--and they throw a scare into us when we get ready for a shot (having only muley licenses.) Soooo
you can see deer far from home. We saw a whitetail doe 200 km north of Ft. St. James. First in our lives. Probably the last. You have to admit there's a lotta black on his tail.

I think Black Tail because from what I have noticed is that a white tail usually has a much longer tail then any other, and the coloring around the a-noose is usually a lot whiter also.

i am saying color-phase blacktail!

PS... how would anyone know what a immy-moose looks like. they go straight from nothing to 4 point!

I watched him blast outta there - No flag and he ran like a Real Deer should. I just tossed out some WT crap because it looked as if a few here wanted to hear some.

This buck lives in the hills of.......... Clearwater.

And this can't be the only one - He's way to young and must have a Momma and Poppa, hiding somewhere up there...

Any CW folk see local BT's?

To me it looks like a blacktail. Mule deer have a white throat batch and the one in the picture does not. Mule deer also have a large white mirror and the one in the image does not. Missing throat patch and no or very faint mirror says to me it’s a blacktail.
Maybe its a hybrid…on second thought, don’t lets go there.:)

Do we get a prize give we get it right?

it's a mule deer...

it realy should not be up for debate if it actualy was taken near clearwater....

Lilloet Hybrid.

Or maybe a Musky Squasnatch.
Hard to tell without my smell-O-vision.

I know if it wasn't in 4 point or better season, there is a better than average chance it would become a 'freezer buck' and I wouldn't worry from there. If it is clearwater, I agree the blacktail argument has lost most of its traction

This tells me that there's room for debate if the pic was shot in Hope.

And that that statement counters this one;

it's a mule deer...

Lets forget the geographics then or even change it to Ladysmith..... What kid of Deer is in the picture?

My ten year old daughter said "soon to be dead, Dad!!"
I'm sticking with Hybrid, and you can't change my mind, as I don't have one.
