My camps are somewhat boring when looked upon by others.

Just a truck/camper combo.

http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/Home_On_The_Range_edited-1.JPG

Now I do have a deck trailer that once unloaded, I can set up a home-fashioned wall tent on it. I only do this when the wife comes along (always hunt solo otherwise) in order to afford dry accommodations/different views other than being confined to the camper.

The camp is SO boring, I seldom even have a fire. At night I'm usually goin over topo maps and stuff, planning for tomorrow.

Things change DRAMATICALLY though, once I get my Critter.

:???:

A little tip - don't put the plastic down like that....... Unless you want to be sleeping in a home made tarp swimming pool with the first big rain storm.

If you 'must' use a tarp ... at least tuck it well under the tent and let the water drip into the soil off the fly.

My camps vary depending on need for that hunt. Camps have varied from the box of the p/up, to the cab of the p/up, to a camper to the ones below. Can't remember ever having the luxury of a cabin though, that would be sweet.

The most comfortable, wood heat, heavy sleeping bags and cots, table set up and cooking the best of foods inside and nice and warm"

The mobile camp, sleeping in a camperette and cooking outside:

The back packing camp, cooking inside the tent most days and not so great food:

waistdeep, some people have occupations which may require them to not be noticable in a photo, or they are just shy to be posted but give permisssion to have the photo put up, or out of respect for not having someones permission to post the friend excludes your face because they want to share their photo such as this one showing their camp.

we have friends who can not have their phots displayed, yet they say it is fine to show the photo as long as I black out their face, which is what I did to show the picture of the sheep which was harvested.

just my explanation as to why some block out faces.

sorry for the small hijack - back to camp pictures :)

I used to backpack in (and I miss it), but I have since gotten lazier and just camp/hunt out of the back of my p/u now. With the canopy on, 150w 12v heater (running off one battery, disconnect the second so it starts in the morning. Get about 4 hrs worth before it dies), and a crank up RV vent for when its warmer it stays very comfortable in there. -30 to +30 I've slept in there, and its always warm even with just a couple of fleece/wool blankets and a sleeping bag. Moisture is the biggest problem in the winter. I stop, set up camp in about 30 sec and getting the fire going is the hardest thing to do usually. I like it because its small and compact, and I can still handle the 4wd trails ok with the truck. I usually have the quad and trailer behind it as well.

I installed a 6x8' sheet of 5/8" plywood for a raised floor (with a wool blanket stapled to it for comfort), and cut out a nook for the cooler. The spare tire holds up the front, and it leaves a large storage area under the plywood for recovery gear and even the winch (sits on a receiver plate). Its amazing how much gear I can store in the truck, enough for a week long solo trip easily. The interior's been gutted, only two seats and a large console, and the back of the cab holds two large storage bins, and the side cubbies where the jump seats used to be holds spare parts and fluids. There's a gap between the storage bins and the back of the cab large enough to store 2 or 3 rifles out of sight. It also DDs 140 km a day from home to work. Sorry I don't really have any pics in action, I've either lost them or someone else has them on their camera. Cheers

Yes, I like the setup a lot. This is the third pickup I've set up (in the back) like that, and the first extended cab. I'd never go back, I just love the extra space in the front too much. I still net around 18 - 20 mpg with the trailer on the back if I'm not in a hurry, and it idles around the bush forever on a tank of fuel (stock 20.5 gal/77.5L). Pushing it I can squeeze in 600 km to a tank. I like the fact that the setup is very compact and cheap to operate and it didn't cost me much to build. I can do extended camping/hunting trips without it busting the bank.

I was going to make a slide out drawer under the bed as it would be so much more convenient, but I came to the conclusion that I'd lose too much storage space. When I bolted down the canopy I tried to remove the boxliner since it takes up a fair amount of space, but by myself I couldn't pick up the canopy (too heavy). I found a piece of pipe that I bent the end into a hook, and that allows me to reach stuff in the front of the box lol. Its VERY much so a one person vehicle when out in the bush. It very comfortable once you're settled in, but by no means do you have a lot of space to move around. Sleeping corner to corner is a flat 7', so without the raised floor I'd never be able to stretch out. I just bought one of those 150w heaters Princess Auto was selling, and I basically just put it on in the evening to pre-warm the truck in the winter, and use it in the morning with the truck idling to dry the back out. Dual batteries and a 130A alternator handle it pretty well. The nice thing about this setup is that its a rather small space to keep warm, the canopy has a heavy honeycomb construction to it so its well insulated, and the raised floor and being in the truck combined keeps the cold from coming in. Even sleeping in -20 I usually have to crack the top vent a hair for circulation because it gets too warm in there.

Now, the guys who are trailering campers combined with cabin wall tents, those are a wicked setup and WAY more comfortable. This last winter we did 4 days in Clinton in -10, and it was awesome kicking back after hunting all day in front of the stove in shorts and t-shirt. Here's a YouTube clip of the little 2 pointer who was hanging out with us (some might remember it from jeeper's post):

It is a hookah pipe which one smokes sheesha, flavoured tobacco, through. There are many different flavours like apple, cherry, mint, coconut, banana, double apple ect. and the water has a cooling effect on the smoke so it does not rip you throat up.
