Going to the SCI show this week coming up! For those of you who dont know what the SCI convention is, its where about 1000 Guide Outfitters meet to sell thier hunts. So what animal from outside of North America tops your list? Where would you go? My two interests so far is Africa for either cape buffalo or a lion, and New Zealand for a Red Stag. Because I havnt hunted off the contintent before, where should I be considering going this year? Yes I know we have the best animals in Canada...but if lets say, you won a free hunt eleswhere, what would it be?

If I had to pick one animal it would be a Siberian Ibex as they have always interested me since I first started hunting. They have impressive horns and live in tough terrain and I think they would be a memorable hunt.

The Marco Polo rams look very interesting. Cape buffalo is the only one on the Big 5 list that really interests me. Lion woudl be exciting, but I dont' know if they make those giant black maned ones anymore, and I dont' want to hunt a little one:tongue:

If it was for only one species then I wouldn't pick Africa, a mixed bag hunt I definitly would but for only one animal I don't think it would be worth it

If money wasn't an issue, I'd have to say Marco Polo.

Marco-Polo Ram or Kudu, Russian Brown Bear would also be hi-up on the list. Guess all I need is unlimited wealth:tongue:.

If my health would permit it, I would chose Marco Polo Sheep. Otherwise I would go for Cape Buffalo.
I did a mixed bag plains game hunt in South Africa in 2007 and it was terrific. Have to go back...

Ever since I was a young boy reading Outdoor life Argosy magazines I wanted to go and hunt a man eating Northern Indian Tiger. Now that they are endangered there is no hunting. Second to that was to go hunt a African Lion and Cape Buffalo. The latter two almost came true but my trip to Africa came an end 1 week prior to departure.

New Zealand red for me

That would be #1 or close to it as well for me. A close 2nd would be some of the bigger Deer/Antelope type plains game in Africa.

surprised how many people dream of hunting red deer in newzealand as they are a introduced species there. there are no large mammals that are native to newzealand. red deer are native to europe and theres some good hunting for them in scotland, france, germany, eastern europe.shooting a red stag in newzealand would be like shooting a fallow deer in bc, nothing wrong with it but hardly a hunt of a lifetime

If $$ was no object, I'd go to Mongolia for a High Altai or Gobi (or Hangay) argali. Love the mass of those argalis relative to the Marco Polo. If I couldn't afford the mongolian argalis, I'd go for a Marco Polo (almost 1/2 the price).

I'd also go back to Africa for Cape Buffalo in a second. It was all you hear about and more.

Easy one for me. Mongolia for high altai argali and Ibex while there. Most any of the argali's and Ibex as secondary hunt. But Mongolia would be first choice. Numbers are way, way down and the quality is dropping fast.

I would lean towards Marco Polo for second choice over all.

Jack Brittingham has a really good video out on his dad and uncle back in the hay day hunting in Mongolia. They went several times as some of the first North American hunters to bring back rams. And wow where they big.

Snow Sheep and the big brownies of the Kamchatka Pennisula on Russia's East Coast. Throw in some of the best Steelheading and salmon fishing in the world, and it will be a great adventure

Something the same...yet something different than NA.

Africa just does not get me going. NZ would be fun, along with Dove shooting in Argentina.

Cheers

Nobody has mentioned it but those markhor from the Himalayas get me sprouting. A close second would be any of the argalis and bringing up third would be the bongo. Any thing else is on my to do list in the next few years but these will likely remain unafordable except for the marco polo.
They have come down considerably especially for Canadians.
