Well folks, the Big Game contest was such a huge success I thought we should get a jump start on the Spring bear contest.

We turned the "deer" contest into a "Big Game" contest and enjoyed much greater participation from everyone, so in the same spirit I am turning the bear contest into a Bear, cougar and wolf contest.

Rules will be similar, and 4 categories

Firearm
Bow
Youth
"Big" animal

Contest opened Jan 1/09, and will run until June 30/09

You must be a member of HBC prior to Jan 15 to enter the Cougar/Wolf portion, and you must be a member before April 1/09 to enter the bear contest.

No prizes as of yet, but I am sure some will surface!

Good idea!

Can Bobcat/Lynx/Wolverine be entered too?

Awesome idea...why not make it a 'predator' contest?

I would imagine that the contest animals would have to have their own category in the BC Book since scores are based on % of BC book scores???

Ok Gatehouse, I'm in.

You got yourself a deal. I think adding Wolves is an excellent idea, but the cotton pickin thing is a fella has to see them before they see you !:frown:
The darn stinkers are out there but seem so hard to hunt.

I'll arrange a rendezvous with a couple Bears near Revelstoke in the spring and we'll see what happens.

Thats a good point. Well, for the "big" category at least....could just allow the others for the random draw part.

Well, i thought about that and ran into a coupel of snags. For one, coyote hunters woudl clean up in ballots...And the other thing is as SSS says, there is no category for them in the BC book.

Possible work arounds- Make 3 coyotes = 1 ballot

COncede that there will be no "big" animal entry for those species.

I just dreamed this up on the way home from work, so there is plenty of time to debate it.:p

sounds like a good idea...i think the wolf cougar and bear is good no need to add the rest of the predators...

I think its a good idea, I seem to get my two bears a year no problem. I also agree with elkhound, can I enter my biggest cottontail?

I'm in. I was thinking of going after some wolves here shortly anyhow.
Just curious, anyone think 100 gr. hand loads out of a .243win too light?
I've seen four or five but never shot a wolf. I'm thinking the above mentioned will do the trick.
Got a .270 win as well but figure exit hole will make hide less valueable.
P.M. me so as not to hyjack;-)
