Took a drive in North Nanaimo and saw a dozen deer hanging out over two residences. The two bucks were gently sparing. They had no fear. I'm sure some of the folks around there could probably entice one of them into their house and jump right into their freezer.

I saw a pretty big one in Nanaimo a few months ago, still in velvet. He was a goog tall 3 point. I saw him right on the side of Hammond bay road in the middle of the afternoon!:o
Its the same way in comox, tons of deer, I guess they like it cause theres no predators and tons of gardens, etc. to eat.

Cool picture.
Comox is ridiculous for deer. Bachelor groups of 3-5 bucks ranging from spikes to 5x5s walking around is an every day occurance. Already seen 2 with arrows sticking out of them, several doors and porch posts end up with bolts in them from crossbows as well through out the year. Pretty sad, not much sport in that.

:-o great picture.
Residential deer sure are a common occurrence. Is it me, or are they more visible this year than in past years?
I personally have seen a pair of (what I consider) good bucks feeding on the side of Hwy. 17, just at the Quadra St. off ramp. One was a nice bodied 4-pt (8-pt for our `merrikan friends) and the other, which was browsing with him was a slightly smaller 3-pt.
I was exiting the hwy. at about 60 kph and came on them so suddenly (right in the middle of the curve) that I did not get any pictures and could not even slow down because of the traffic behind me. I got a good - ableit fast - look at them though, just enough to count the points and to go "WHOA!" :!:
Too bad that it is not legal to bow hunt in almost all of Saanich  :-(

This is more and more common in Comox. I drive through Comox 2 times a day (at least) and there are deer walking down the sidewalk, even saw a spike buck last year walking across a crosswalk at a 4 way stop on Comox ave (well mannered deer anyway). But in reality, it is a sure sign of a lack of habitat for these creatures. I don't think that they would be good eatin there even if you did manage to "Hunt" a deer in downtown Comox. Too much stress and golf course fertilizer in 'em.

we have the same in Prince Rupert. Some of them will come right up and eat out of your hand. Saw one not too long ago in the Safeway parkinglot. It's kind of a pain because they eat everything you try to plant. I'm sure over the years more than one deer has met its maker at the end of an apple and a hammer.

That's funny! I live right by there and I just saw him for about the hundredth time relaxing under a tree on the turn about. Him and a doe are always there. Look beneath those trees, you'll spot him. I've had a good look at him a few times and I'm pretty sure he is a 5x4.
