I have a moose and mulie tag burning a hole in my wallet so I figured I should take a quick day trip and visit a spot where I had seen some moose many moons ago.

The weather was quite "fresh", at -2C at the summit. There was also plenty of fresh snow.

I took up a vantage point and watched. This is all I saw:

Went for a drive up to higher country. Again, nothing but snow and nice scenery.

A grouse decided to sacrifice itself, much to my daughter's delight.

The spot where I had seen moose before didn't disappoint. It yielded a moose to someone else. I found the cape and head (with antlers removed). Was it one of you? The area is the very southern edge of 3-13.

Anyways, I thought my daughter and I would go for a quiet stroll. We scared up a grouse, saw lots of squirels and some fairly fresh moose tracks and very fresh deer tracks. I did some cow calls, but to no avail. And that is it.

Oh yes, there was a small flock of mallards on a pond. They were really nice birds.

It felt really nice to be outside.

Looks to me like you had a fantastic day with your daughter! Add something to the" introducing daughters" thread.
It's great to see some new up and coming hunters our boys and girls getting out there with their dads ..... and the odd mom too.
Thanks for sharing the pics!
Good luck the rest of the season.

You're right - beautiful scenery. And a great smile on your little one (not to mention yourself). It's true. A bad day hunting/outside beats a good day at work/inside, anytime.

My boy is turning 2 on October 21, so I am very excited to take him out too. My doe LEH starts tomorrow, but he is very sick so he will have to miss out. He was very excited to see the grouse.

It is interesting to note how kids can be REALLY interested in positive activities like hunting. My daughter was very curious to look at the contents of the crop; she wanted to know what the grouse was eating. She was also interested in why it kept flapping/squirming even though it was dead. I explained the physiological aspects of neurons, neural transmission and how reflexes work. She also wanted to see what the pellets looked like (No.6 Sellier & Bellot), luckily 1 of the 4 pellets that hit was recovered. She was fascinated by the elasticity of the atreries and veins going into the heart. Who says you need an X-box or cable tv?

I hope all of you get to take your kids out. I wish my wife was there too. In my humble opinion hunting can be a very good family activity. It helps nurture family values and teaches us about our place in the world.
