Well some of you will remember I bid on the Deer shoulder mount that was in the Donation and Support Auction Forum.

While I did have a dandy whitetail I had planned on getting mounted I wanted to get my Mtn Goat from 2006 mounted first. I asked the Taxidermist if he would do a shoulder mount of the Mtn Goat and he agree'd, he would do the goat for no extra charge:grin:

We'll apparently that wasn't good enough, all you experts:mrgreen: figured nothing short of a half lifesized mount would do justice to my Goat and the memories it holds for me.

The suggestion was made that I approach the Taxidermist and see how much extra I had to chip in to get a half lifesized. I'm not stupid, I know what a half lifesized mount costs and I couldn't afford to pay the balance but the pressure was on so I had to ask.

I just about fainted when I talked to the Taxidermist and he agree'd to do the Half lifesized http://img2.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0045.gif (http://www.mysmiley.net/free-rolleye-smileys.php) the additional renumeration was very reasonable, too reasonable actually. I'm gonna have to find some way to repay his kindness in the future.

The one hangup was when my brother and I caped the goat we only planned on a shoulder mount, we left it long in the torso like we always do but we cut the legs off where the long hair turns to short hair. I ran this past the taxidermist and he said No problem, he can make it look like his legs are tucked under and build a rock base for him to sit on :biggrin:

Where was I

HHMMM oh yeah

I packed up the goat and shipped him off. In March we met in person at the Wild Sheep Banquet and talked about what I was looking for, I told him the turn and the pose I wanted and honestly I didn't think he was going to find a maniquin that did what I wanted, but to my amazement he sent me an email later on with a picture of a maniquin that fit the bill perfectly.

I kept in touch with him during the whole process and he fired me off a few pics to keep me drooling from time to time, he has given me permission to divulge his name and I will in a minute for those who are wondering.

But First

I'd like to thank him very much for going the extra mile and doing for me what he did. He is a great guy, honest and passionate about hunting and his donation is helping keep the site up and running, hopefully he will put up another taxidermy job for auction and if he does I will be bidding for sure and I feel that the competition to win will be much more ferocious.

I remember the old thread -----> You should feel as though you owe me BIG-TIME!

I was a strong proponent for the 'up-grading'.

He doesn't really need the advertising, he takes a limited number of heads a year and thats it, and actually does it as a hobby, its been a hobby for the last 30 years or so but he also has a day job.

Yes, I can figure out a place to put him.;) My house isn't exactly massive, but I'll get him hung up. My wife is already giving me the gears about space, man wait till the whitetail gets back and see how much wall space we have after that:D

newhunterette

well if it is wall space you are looking for - that beauty can hang in my house - lots of wall space :)

hehehehehe

Brambles - beautiful goat - and wonderful job by the taxidermist - I know how much work goes into making such trophies as my son's Godfather is a taxidermist

I am sure no matter where this trophy hangs- the beauty and memories will shine always

I've been to Ken's house, he is quite amazing. Like it's been mentioned he's not out there looking for any more work he's quite busy with what comes to him. When he's not working his full time job.

I'd like to thank Ken for a great donation, and generous support to the site. A big thanks as well goes out to Brambles.

I got the goat home, now the tricky part is hanging it, quite heavy, almost feels like real rock. Unfortunatly the spot I want to hang it has the chimney to the house inset into the wall, much to my dismay. Gonna try a concrete screw in the brick to see if it holds.

Somebody loan Brambles a jackhammer;).

You could always drill it out with a larger diameter hole, fill the hole with some fresh concrete or mortar, then stick the screw into the fresh mortar(better if you use a small lag bolt) .

You could follow my advice but I'll have you know that I've never laid a brick in my life.:-)

Get 'er up and take a pic!

Its non functioning, just vents the gas hot water and furnace now, and I"m sure it has its own liner inside the chimney for that purpose.

I needed concrete/brick anchors and didn't have any, no 24 hour hardware stores around, called some friends and they checked their stashes but none were to be found or else I would have got er did.

Just got back from the hardware store and am going to work on it now so leave me alone damnit:tongue:

My house is not big, this is the only suitable place for a mount of this size, kinda wish my ceilings were higher than 8ft too:frown:

Looks great IMO, hopefully the anchor holds and he doesn't try and fly away, but considering the weight of the mount I think his "flight" will more resemble a "plunge"

Looks great.....but I don't think you should have hung him so close to the thermostat adjustment. With that kind of hair, I'm sure you'll keep finding it turned down:roll:.

Gives me an idea of where to hang one IF I ever get one.
