I normally use a 20ga, but she's all apart getting new wood and such. I have an old 16ga, I can use instead of a 12ga. What do you guys think? 16 or 12? I'm thinking 16 but I've never used it on game before. I've got a big bag of 7-1/2 shot I can reload with, any suggestions?

16 would be good but a 12 would work to

I have taken a few grouse with my 16g...found it to be a little too much, but it definately does the job.

A 16 is just fine for small game. I used to hunt rabbits and squirrel as a young boy in Missouri. I also used a 12 and a 20. All will do the job but you have to remember to watch out for shot when eating your harvest. I am going to buy a 410 pump for grouse which is for me a good shotgun to use for these small birds.
