BANG!

.... has anyone on the board ever hunted on Bowen with the bow?

I live on Bowen - and can attest to the fact that the place is simply overrun with deer. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with hunting this neck of the woods? Being a newbie hunter, I like to ask for advice of those with more experience,

thanks in advance

I just went to bowan Island 2 weeks ago, I'm working on a house for a buddy of mine, I was there for 1 day and saw 8 deer, I could imagine if I was hunting it would be a blast, I'm going back in the middle of sept maybe this time I'll take my bow. bochunk2000 This is a Island just of the mainland straight across from horseshoe bay, 22 min across by ferrie quite a rugged island for terrain but I'm sure has some great hunting potential. 25 yrs ago fishing with my father saw many deer feeding along the bays and cliffs.

I know a young guy at work that tried to get permission to hunt someones land on the island as most of it is private. He's still waiting??

If you don't get written permission try your luck some were else. They have a by-law restricting hunting to private land only and good luck getting permission. Mind you it is a by law only i believe so the worst that can happen is a fine but i here you only get escorted off by the rcmp. :) good luck with it.

hi, i used to live at the coast and Bowhunted bowen island , took a few deer off the island to about 1993, got harder and harder to get access to open land, or getting permission to hunt, eventually gave up on it. used to enjoy the heavy cover hunting- areas like hood point and around josephine were accessible at the time, with permission of course. Used to be a fellow living by hood point who lived there and was a bowhunter, if you wanted to cross private land to hunt the mountain, the locals were okay with it if this fellow was consulted first. Sorry cant remember his name. quite a few dogs were running loose on the island at the time, chasing deer. My info is really old, hope it helps. cheers rrfred

I've known two people who've hunted on Bowen, both said never again. One got a deer, but both of them said that locals are very unpleasent to hunters. Gambier Island might be a better bet.
