went into the vanderhoof area, planned for a ten day hunt. thought it thru and when we got there about 1 am, we un packed and set up. we went to bed with plans on getting up at 5 am. As the alarm went off i jumped up and started making coffee for the thermos. my girlfriend. yes guys my girlfriend i hunt with her. said are you nuts we have 10 days. i said your right and crawld back in bed. against my better judgment. lol.
12:30 we drove out for an afternoon look about. at 1:10 i shot a moose that i saw walk across the road into some christmas trees. I called from a different vantage point, turned and said to my girlfriend "grab the camera you never know". Then when i turned back around he was running out of the pines looking for well another moose.
he dressed out at 538 lbs. so not huge but respectful.

Nice job on the moose. I have been on 6 moose kills in my life, 4 were shot between 12 and 1 in the afternoon, makes me wonder why I still get up before first light....

You get up early so your chances are better for success.....sleep in and I'll tag out on the moose you should've had!!!

Never shot one at first light, always see them later in the day for some reason! I get moose every year (without LEH most years) and hunt less than 5 days a year! I while still be up at first though, just in case!

Congrats on the moose!!! Any Picts???

Around 75% of the moose I guide for are taken in the afternoon, the rest between 9-11. I have only ever shot one moose in the first hour of the day, but the clients want the whole hunt, so off we go.

For me personally, most have been shot between 9-11.

Cheers

It's great to hear that you are hunting with your girlfriend. Some may disagree, but I really enjoy the family aspect of hunting. I want my wife and kids to have the same great experiences that I do. It is also a perfect way to spend time with your kids.

Good job!
