My son & I were hunting around Northern B.C. for moose. Luckily we had sheep tags in our pockets. We spotted 9 rams across the valley late in the afternoon. We went back to camp & prepared for a sheep hunt. The next morning we were on our way. After crossing 3 miles of swamps we finally came to the base of the mountain. Luckily there was rain & fog hiding our approach. We climbed for about 2 hrs. to the elevation of the sheep. We had to side hill it for about 600 yards before we were with in shooting distance. The fog was rolling in & out so we had to be careful that the rams didn't spot us. We had to crouch down out of site everytime the fog roled out & wait for more fog to come in. Finnally we were out of site of the rams. Now we could put a stock on them. As we crested the last ridge between the rams & us my son said that he could see the big ram standing up. They had moved & were now 80 yards from us looking our way. I told my son to take him. He removed his pack & used it as a rest,, BOOM a solid hit through the back of the lungs. My sons 1st sheep. Green scored @ 159 1/8" 38 1/4 & 38" 12 1/2 years old. What an exciting hunt. I'm one proud father. http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/%3Ca%20href=%22http://s231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/?action=view&current=DSC01118.jpg%22%20target=%22_blank%22%3E%3 Cimg%20src=%22http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/DSC01118.jpg%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22Photobuc ket%22%3E%3C/a%3Ehttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/%3Ca%20href=%22http://s231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/?action=view&current=DSC01134.jpg%22%20target=%22_blank%22%3E%3 Cimg%20src=%22http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/DSC01134.jpg%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22Photobuc ket%22%3E%3C/a%3Ehttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/%3Ca%20href=%22http://s231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/?action=view&current=DSC01130.jpg%22%20target=%22_blank%22%3E%3 Cimg%20src=%22http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/DSC01130.jpg%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22Photobuc ket%22%3E%3C/a%3Ehttp://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/%3Ca%20href=%22http://s231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/?action=view&current=DSC01114.jpg%22%20target=%22_blank%22%3E%3 Cimg%20src=%22http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee231/lynx2lynx/DSC01114.jpg%22%20border=%220%22%20alt=%22Photobuc ket%22%3E%3C/a%3E

Very nice ram. Must be nice to not even be hunting sheep and find one like this. When I go sheep hunting I see everything but legal rams. If it could only be the other way.

yes there was one other legal ram but we figured we would let him mature & breed. One was enough work as it was.

Green scored @ 159 1/8" 38 1/4 & 38" 12 1/2 years old. What an exciting hunt. I'm one proud father.

Super way to cap off a moose hunt!! Congrats on a really nice ram!!

With all the stuff on sheep aging going on lately, I couldn't resist - I have the ram at no more than 9 1/2 (maybe 10 1/2 if I am missing something below the hairline!) Who's the compulsory inspector (heh heh :p)

I firmly believe CI guys are over aging quite a few rams due to their lack of understanding how ram horns grow and aging rings vs false annuli. Hell I have already been told by a fellow he aged a 16 year old Stone's ram this year (uh ohhh). There is also a ram in Vanderhoof that was shot in the Prophet aged at 14 or 15 when its clearly no more than 11. Its crazy. The older ones are fine as they're usually (not always) clearly legal by full curl definition. The problem arises when it comes to the younger 6-7 year old rams classified as legal 8 or 9 year olds.

Regardless - he is easily legal and a great first ram!!

Keep in mind, I will accept that I could be wrong with the aging if someone can show me. But I am pretty damned confident its not 12.5. Would love a side view of the other side to play match up with age lines.

I have since consulted with the Sheep Sheriff and you are in fact correct BCRams. The ram is 9.5 -10.5 years old. Looks like another accurate inspection by one of our provinces fully qualified CI's.:razz: We do really need to fixup your paintshop skills though!

Nothing wrong with the ram at all... He's a real beauty and is going to look awesome on the wall.

14, 15 and 16 year old Stone's Sheep are unlikely in the wild would be my own opinion. The winters would be pretty tough for them past 11/12. Out of several hundred rams taken by my family the oldest I know of was 13 years old.

I did that with an old fashioned roller ball mouse .... it kept getting stuck on me etc and I had to redo the lines many times  Time for an upgrade.

Yeah we could only count 91/2 also with 14" bases. the inspector told us 12 1/2 yrs. old. I don't think so but we were not going to argue. The ram was very fat & in good health. He only had one broken tooth. Definately a mature ram, but not 12 1/2.
