We are heading up to Finger Lake for our Moose hunt. We have never hunted in this area before, can anyone offer any info on the area and places to go?

It's been a few years, but Finger Lk. Fishing Resort is as good as any to set up camp. Good fishing, you can hang game and great little cabins.
The area is hunted pretty hard though but if you get off the beaten path, you'll find them. Good for grouse as well.

If you're going to rent cabins, go to Tatuk Lake Resort. It's five minutes further down the road and the cabins are way nicer, better fishing and they have a covered hanging area also. I think it's about five bucks more per night, I've stayed at both. Got my moose on the second day, staying at Tatuk last year.

Great area.... my Dad started taking me in that area in 1970.... lots of fond memories and many moose later we still go up (only with draws though!) there any chance we get. All of our hunting was on the other side of the lake(s)...Lots of deer showing up in the last 10 years too, whities and mulies!

Guys from work just came back from 5 days working in the area. Did not see a single moose! There were four hunting parties staying at the camp and none got moose. The owner of the lodge at Finger lake keeps tabs on the moose kills in the area and says only 5 have been harvested thus far. Hopefully things turn around by the time you get up there, this area typically produces lots of moose.

I haven't stayed at Tatuk since Norm and Heather sold it.

But it was a great place at that time, and it looks good now.

Bring lots of fuel. You can buy it there, but at a premium. There are tons of places to set-up camp if thats what your doing. Lots of roads, so you'll see lots of hunters(and logging trucks). You didn't say when you're going? region 6 or 7?
