I'm not too familiar with lever actions. Looking to get one as a shorter bush gun but everything I found was real expensive. Are there any out there that won't set me back 600 bucks? Even the used beat up ones seem to be selling for too much. I'm just tired of luggin' around a .303 enfield or my rem. 700 .300 win mag. I want something short and lighter. Dunno where to start ... help please!!!

I did check older threads but didn't find much info.

Get yourself a Savage 99, usually run $300-$400 depending on condition. A BLR would be nice but may overshoot your budget.

Puma has a 16", 20" and 24" Barreled rifles in .357, .44-40, .44 Rem, .45 LC and .454 casull. They are a M94 Clone and quite reliable do to the simplicity of the M94. Price ranges from $400-$600 depending on the caliber and the length of the barrel you get. Though you will find ones up to $800 and they are not worth that much.

restock your 700 300 Win with a lighter fiberglass stock. A super high quality one will go for $400-500 and drop the weight by a pound off a wood stock

ya ... i go there all the time ... but I don't have 4-500 bucks to spend on one. I already have 2 rifles and 4 shotguns ... the wife would kill me if she knew I went and bought another one.

Mossberg now makes a 30/30 lever. I was looking at them at Walmart down south, but they should be available up here soon. They were $399 in Washington state.

go join up at www.canadiangunnutz.com and check out their Equipment Exchange (you need to click on User CP, scroll down to Miscellaneous and then click on Group Memberships and request access to the EE). there are many lever's in there. one fellow has something like 7 30-30's up. there's even a Puma in 44-40 for $450! :D
