I always wondered what happends when you get a goat draw and you were faced with a shot like this.

Do you take it or wait

Lol. This brings memories back when I was a teenager in Switzerland following my dad on ibex and chamois hunt into the Swiss mountains. One valued piece of advice he would give was. “You always want to shoot the animal that stands on a rock ledge. That way you will not have to climb up the mountain to retrieve it.”

I witnessed several times what he meant and watched ibex and chamois tumble down the mountain. It indeed made packing them back to the truck a lot easier.

Goat horns are pretty fragile, I doubt that the horns would survive a fall like this would without some damage.

If you listen close, you can almost hear the truck radio in the background.

Do you take it or wait

Everyone has their own standards. Where does shooting vs hunting get confused ?
Like Andy says goat horns are fragile, but repairable with some artwork. The cape would suffer dirt and blood and guts maybe but, unlike Sheep with hollow hair, bleaches out nicely and holes can be sewn.

Some people hunt goats for meat....some for trophies.

If its meat you're after there may be some bruising. If it's a trophy you're after there might not be much left. Sure hides can be sewn but split lips and facial cuts are hard to hide...even by the best taxidermists....and will cost you more.

Goats live in some steep-arse country and falls are common.

Not many are shot from roads:?.

This same video was posted here sometime last year if I remember correctly. Goats live on cliffs. Sometimes you gotta hike up to get em' and sometimes they roll down for you:grin:. Goats are notoriously tough so waiting until he's in a "better" spot may just mean he takes more than one bullet before heading for the cliffs and falling...A few facial scars just help remind you of the hunt;).

Guess it was too much work to get out of the truck and put on a bit of a stalk

Why stalk any closer when you are already within range??? You just risk losing the shot opportunity. Capitalize when you can-you never know if you'll get another chance.
