Went and checked out our back ponds and and found a hen mallard and I counted 13 chicks swimming around. And in our other slough theres 20+ woodies, 3 pairs of cinnamon and green-winged teal and a couple paired up northern shovelers. Looks like a lot more chicks to come in the following weeks.

It is against the basic code of waterfowling to talk about multiple pairs of cinnamon's and not provide pictures!

Go fix this problem, NOW!

Well I went back out but didnt see any cinnamons, but did find a blue-winged teal not really in full colours.

Theres about 4 fully coloured northern shovelers, would make a very nice mount.

And in this last one you can count 5 drake woodies, and two green-winged teal in the background.

I'm having a hard time getting close enough to the teals, the hens seem to blend so well into the bank I dont see them till to late. I think I'll try and hide in camo and wait for them to come back.

Nice pics! The bluewing looks excellent, I shot one over 20 years ago opening week but haven't seen one since.
Thanks for the pics,
Dan

Thanks for the pics! Been on the road...

Where I grew up we'd have folks into the hundreds of bluewings, only question was when the first frost was, cause as soon as it hit they where gone! Most years it hit before opener!

Nice pics! In 30 plus years of duck hunting and watching I have never seen a bluewing. Cool!

Cool pics, thanks for posting. I especially love the plumage of the woodies, and that shoveler looks pretty funky too!

Well I went for another walk this morning, that hen still has all 11 of her chicks and then found another mallard hen with 10 chicks in a different pond. Pretty good habitat for them I guess. I guess the wood ducks layed later then the mallards becuase I havent seen a single wood duck chick, and theres more wood ducks around then mallards.

Also found about a dozen mallards all sleeping on the bank of the slough, in the sun this drake has some awesome plumage, not really a greenhead anymore.

Didnt see a single teal or northern shoveler but theres a pair of buffleheads too far for pictures.

Saw 2 pairs of geese on the dyke today with their goslings! Lets hope for a good hatch and survival rate this spring!

Well a very late woodie hen finally decided to use one of the wood duck nests I put up, lots of eggs in there. Theres still the two hens kicking around with 25 chicks that have grown quite a bit since I last saw them, and so now I guess we'll have even more woodies for next year.
