Wondering if anybody has any idea where one can find these things. They were made I believe in Alberta, but seem to have vanished. Anybody know where to even find used ones for sale?

Are you talking about the inserts for shotguns that you put a .22 bullet into?

A lad down here had boxes and boxes of them.

Excuse me?

I've heard of 'little skeeters' that turn a 12 into a 20 or 410, but how the hell do you turn a shotgun into a .22?!?

I'd love to hear about it, sounds fun!

well Happy New Year to you Foxer!

I don't know if this is what partsman is asking about, but there is an insert that is about 2/3 the length of a shotgun cartridge, and is loaded in a shotgun like a regular shell, and it has a "chamber" for a .22 round, and a teeny bit of "barrel" for the .22 cal bullet to start out in, and then it rattles out the shotgun barrel but has been launched from dead centre in the bore. You can re-use the inserts a number of times, but not too many.

The idea is, you want to pot a grouse or something with a .22 instead of your 12 ga, you slip one of these babies into the chamber. I have never used them, just saw them at a friend's house who does the gun shows quite a bit. They come in boxes of about 8 or 10 inserts. I suspect accuracy is no roaring hell.....

How very odd :)

Those little skeeters work good, but they're also shotshells. I heard of an insert shaped like a 30-06 that held a 32 apc round in the front for grouse.

Happy new year to you too bud!!

My friend has one for his .300 Win. He uses it while sheep hunting to shoot Ptarmigan. It looks just like a loaded cartridge except the primer is actually the .32 which is loaded from the back.

The partridge Cartridge was actually designed for rifles.
It came in either steel or Stainless steel, and it was machined to the dimensions of the cartridge for what ever caliber you shot and was a two piece affair.
The charge was one used in power loads for nail guns, you unscrewed the back half which contained a moving firing pin and you put the charge in the front half, screwed it back together and then inserted a round ball the size of your bore and inserted it into your chamber and it fired the ball down the bore at a reasonably good clip and hopefully got your grouse or rabbit or what ever small game you were after

Thunderstix, I saw the ones you were talking about here in PG, they are a whopping $50 at E&I sports!!

I really want one for the .303, so I can shoot rabbit while out coyote hunting this winter, but the price seems a little steep for a peice of machined stainless 8O

Partridge Cartridge your talking "Rifle Inserts"

RIFLE INSERTS FOR RIMFIRE CARTRIDGES

TECHNICAL NOTES

Rimfire inserts are available for firing 22LR and 22 Mag cartridges in centerfire rifles. We machine 22 rimfire barrels to the outside dimension of a rifle cartridge, and fabricate a centerfire to rimfire plug which enables the centerfire rifle firing pin to fire the rimfire cartridge! These inserts are extremely useful for indoor practice and teaching beginners to shoot. They are useful for taking small game at reasonable ranges (Remember the insert barrel is only one to to two inches long).

The rimfire inserts are made to the size of the rifle cartridge with bullet. They weigh very little and are convenient to carry in the field. After firing, the empty insert is removed by your rifle's extractor and your big game rifle is back in action!

WE HAVE 22LR AND 22 MAG INSERTS IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE IN THE FOLLOWING POPULAR CALIBERS:
243 Win. 300 Win Mag
25-06 300 H & H
30-06 Springfield 7.65 Argentine
308 Win 7mm Rem. Mag
30-30 Any Caliber 24 and up!

Hundreds of other calibers are available! We specialize in foreign, antique and wildcat calibers-all you have to do is send us a fired unsized cast or chamber casting for an exact match to your rifle. For these special orders, please allow 8-12 weeks for delivery.

Chamber adapters use the rifling in your firearm to stabilize the bullet. They are excellent tools for target practice and for downing small game, eliminating unnecessary meat destruction and the recoil of full power cartridges. Our adapters are made for rifles and, where indicated by the asterisk (*), the Thompson Contender. Adapters for the Thompson Contender ONLY are indicated by "TC" (they cannot be made with offset firing pin plug).

Well same kind of idea. But I guess I should have taken a picture of the box, it is a partridge cartridge and it is more of an adapter to allow one to shoot round ball loads using cement and steel nail driving cartridges. It works quite well and is the style I prefer. But it appears from the response, no one else has ever seen one of these or even heard the name. It came from Alberta. I will have to look into your style you posted.

There is a fellow I see at gunshows that makes a similar product called the "Hammond Game Getter" which is simply an empty brass with a machined stainless steel base added to it in lieu of the brass one. It has an offset primer hole and uses nail gun cartridges. He sells them with a resizing tool (simply a piece of steel with a caliber sized hole in it) and you tap a muzzleloader ball (or buckshot depending on caliber) through the sizer. There was a write up in handloader a few years back about them, they are cool (damn accurate too). They are made in Alberta, I will see if I can get the number (cheap too, $30 if I remember right). I used one like Amphibious mentioned built in PG for my 30-06. They are great (use a 32 Auto round) but are only useful for 30 cal and .311 cal (303). Hope this helps

Well, I've manufactured hundreds in Ontario but due to separation, I am-out-of production. They are in demand here in Ontario. They are public domain as Winchester and Marble's made them a long time ago. The problem is that getting gun stuff from the states nowdays is prohibitive. The exchange is better though, but if a stainless insert from the states is 27.00 U.S., by the time you actually get-it, if you do, it's like almost 50 bucks. In my experience flogging them at gunshows, you have to keep your price at or below the cost of a case of beer, because that's an increment Canadians think-in. I need my own CNC turning centre, because machining them by hand on a lathe bites Kaboss, even with a taper attachment.

I have made .50 action express to shoot from .50 BMG before IMI changed the bore Dia. from .510 to .500. The guy from Detroit said something about "Neutralizing Sentries" whatever that meant. I have made them for flare pistols and the 7.35 Carcano and you name-it. Right now I have a list as long as my arm, but my lathe is in pieces in a 40-foot sea can. I will answer any questions though; I am an Engineer and a Machinist and a Gunsmith.

I have a Hammond Game Getter and it works great. You have to aim higher, but once you know where it's shooting it wacks grouse really well.
