Plan was to stay out till 1 or 2, or later today so outside of filling the biggest thermos I own, you need a really big sandwich!

I pretty beat today, Hannah's had a rough few days with the flu and if you're a parent you know why I'm so beat.

Karma shone hard on me today, thanks to a fellow chaser of brant I tried out a new spot and changed my fortunes from Zero, to 2 in the bag!

Two came in textbook to the hole I had in the spread today, and well Two came home!

Still flying high, there are very few first of species left for me now!

Very best,

Ian

Nice hunt. Congrats on the successful season. Us Vancouver Island hunters can't shoot brant over here. How do they taste?

Good to see you were successful this season, Ian! I had a feeling you were going to get your Brant this year but I figured I would have seen a picture a little earlier in the season.
Tough bird to get, the short season also works against anyone who has to work the weekdays.
Are you mounting one or both? I always remember dad's buddy had one mounted in his rec room. It was hanging upside down by one leg with the wings semi open, I really liked the look.
Congratulations,
Dan

congratualtions. Also, that's a really nice decoy you have. Did you make it yourself or is it availble commercially?

Porcupine,

The decoy is one of mine, carving is one of my many duck distractions. I've got a webpage with a few pics if you're intrested, www.partridgecreek.ca

Not too many hunters get to see a Brant floating dead! Boy I miss that sight......... what a great moment it is. Too bad It's always a hurry to get back to the anchor.

Ian, very nice Sandwich, guess it wasnt a Brant sandwich though;).
I will second the ? about the decoy as it looks very interesting as well, please fill us in on the details on this decoy.
As I had to work the whole Brant Season and the fact that Ihavntshot at then for over 8 years means I will find solice in heading over to VI and get my fill of Branta bernicla.
Cheers,
Rob

Rob,

The decoy is hollow cedar (eastern white) painted in artists oils, runs around 9" wide, 5+ tall and in the 16-18 range long. The back and parts of the sidepocket are a little light for black brant, but that'll get caught on others. I use a swing keel on my own birds and that's what this one has.

We where on the VI last weekend to check out the brant festival, saw about 300 birds, wayyy cool!
