i was just thinking, we are supposed to use hearing protection for ourselves when we fire our guns? why not our dogs? there hearing is far more sensitive and easily harmed.

thoughts? opinions?

Good luck getting your dog (s) to wear hearing protection! I know that if I tried that on my dog - earplugs or whatever - it would be more of a wrestling match than anything else ;-)

Realistically dogs live maybe 10-15 years. Of that 8-9yrs may be in the field. Hearing loss is cumulative over a life time. It makes sense for people to preserve their hearing more than a dogs.

It seems my dog already has selective hearing now!

All my dogs have sufferred hearing loss at some point in their lives but I've never heard of doggy hearing protection. Most days it's tough enough to get the collar over their heads.
I start teaching hand signals for the simple obediance commands while they are puppies. PLanning ahead for the inevitable.
