Hello, I am from Edmonton(have pity) and go to penticton 3 times a year to visit wifes family. I bought a German longhair pointer last year, she did well on grouse last fall, and thought I would introduce her to some new things. How much crown land is there in the hills above summerland. How about Oliver? what might I expect to see for upland? where can I get a good map of the area that would show crown land. any help appreciated.

You'll find pheasant and quail and possibly blue grouse (and Ruffed) up high. Here's a link to mapping that should provide some useful info.

Probably the best set of maps will be in the Okanagan Backroad Mapbook. It will cost you about $25 but it will have all the info you will need to find your way around.

Another good resource is the BC Fishing Directory & Atlas:
