Im new to this sport. PAL has been submitted and is "in the mail"
and im looking into taking my core course mid january.

right now im just curious what one has to do to legally hunt deer/ elk /moose/ etc?

as i understand it you have to apply for a lottery tag? is this just for certian species or all>? what else does one have to do?

thanks!

Once you have done your Core you need to get your hunters number. With that you can purchase a hunting license. There are different species that are huntable, and different seasons. General Open Season and Limited Permits. Some species need a special tag per animal....Probably the best way to get an idea is to grab a hunting synopsis from a store that sells licences and study. The core course will teach you how to use the synopsis.

This is also a great place to ask questions. Remember that there are a lot of "experts" out there and sometimes that can lead to interesting discussions.

Phone guy pretty much summed it up, ask lots of questions at your core course they'll go over most things. Pick up a copy of the hunting regs at a local hunting store and read, and feel free to ask alot of questions here.

Welcome to the sport. Here's a link to the BC hunting regulations online:
http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wildlife/hunting/regulations/

This synopsis describes the general hunting rules and where and when you can hunt species during an open season.

To find out which species are available to hunt via the limited entry hunt (lottery tags) check out this webpage:

Spot deer, load firearm, aim, pull trigger, gut, pack, hang, skin, leave hanging for 36+ hours, butcher, wrap....presto.

Seriously though, see ryanb's post for the regs. The CORE will teach you a lot about hunting, species identification etc....after you have that you are set. Try to find an experianced hunter to take you along. Ask lots of questions here....I've learned a lot from this site. Be safe!

My advice would be to go to any local sporting goods store and pick up a CORE book and study. I think the book is only around 15-25$. You will learn alot by just reading through the material before taking the course. Thats what I did and I found it to be a great help. As for on hands hunting related questions, I would just ask lots of questions to anybody who has some experience and is willing to answer.
