I used to hunt ducks and geese in swamps, rivers, lakes, fields and everything in between, but now that I live on he coast I have no idea how to go about hunting sea ducks. Has anyone hunted around Prince Rupert? Any help would be great. Or does someone want to go out for some birds?

Sea duckin is quite different then puddler shooting, closest too diver hunting but it seems that diver hunters are an endangered species in BC. You need a couple of things, first you need to find the birds! Look for areas where they can get at mussells and other crustaceans. Oldsquaw like deep water, but scoters will be closer to shore. A few hours touring with a boat and some binos will find any birds if they are there to find.

You will also need a rig, couple of dozen will do, some rattle cans of flat black will quickly turn mallards to scoters.

If you decide to make it a go drop me a line and I'll run you through longlining, set up, shooting (yes it'd different) and the other fine details.

Very best,

Ian
