Any of you guys ever hunt the Klappen rail grade, I was up there this year and thought it was some beautiful country. I was wondering whos been up there and what you thought of it.They are doing lots of drilling there right now, so maybe this will change the game patterns...??? If you have been there, tell me what you thought.

Its an old railroad bed built to ship coal out of the north. It goes from smithers to dease lake and was built in the early 80's. Due to the price of coal dropping the tracks were never put on, its kinda cool this long trail with bridges and everything....But no tracks.

some moose...but I think with the new moose no hunting areas ...moose hunting is not as good as it used to be...One thing I did see plenty of sign was for the G BEARS.......they were all over...

I have hunted a section of the part that borders Spatsizi. Beautiful area but hunted hard. We talked to a CO when we were there and they had performed a rough count of hunters........over 1000 along the road in various camps when we were there. Still saw moose though.

There is not much for side roads in that area or further north, that a truck can travel, due to a lack of logging activity. So you don't have to get too far off of the highway to leave a whole lot of hunters behind. Precisely why the newer reg about the '400 m. road closer ' during the moose rut.

I hunted the area including the rail bed early October. Total "bust". Saw tracks of a single moose around the rail bed area and spotted a non-legal bull Caribou in the high country. Appears the hunting crowd had come and gone by time we got there. I hear it can be very crowded.

Hey Thunder......1000 hunters at one time really? I have hunted there and seen hunters but no where near that amount.

Cheers

The grade was washed out this year and only quads could get thru, but no blockade.
