It's only a few short months until flying things with webbed feet are open again, and by the looks of the dust on the forum here I figured a new topic was in order..

My to do list is medium length this year..

1. Paint the new boat and build a collaspable blind for it
2. Get an aquapod and get it rigged to hunt
3. More decoys (no you can never have enough!)
4. Look for some goose'n spots
5. Spend some time on b-bay locating the low tide channels
6. get out the club and bust some clays!
7. and of course, sell my sneakbox! (http://partridgecreek.ca/Partridge%20Creek/sneak.html)

So, how bout the rest of you?

Symon and Michel, any boats in your future?
Dano, blind touch ups? Another shotgun?
Dave, more decoys? some comfort items for the island?
Preston, more snowgoose gear?
Kishman, the full plunge into waterfowl insanity?

Ian

Hi Ian,

Well, I'm hoping to find a deal on a boat eventually. Either that or talk my boat-owning friend who lives right on the river in Ladner to hunt more often.

A neighbour has some kayaks he isn't using. I might borrow one of those this summer and try it out in shallow water somewhere to see if I can get good enough to get into some of the marshes around here.

Getting some new hunting gear is pretty important to me right now too I think.

I really need a decent marsh-grass or shadowgrass parka or jacket and decent (non-leaking) chest waders.

Seriously considering some electronic ear protectors too.

Gotta also go shoot clays before waterfowl season for sure!

This year will be my first year waterfowling. Hoping to find someone to show me and my new sidekick the ropes:

Yup that about sums it up:

A few more decoys and a couple of thousand shells at clays. The Pitt Meadows club is shooting on Wednesday evenings now so I'm there a couple of times a week.

no real plans out of the ordinary, I should replace the shotgun I sold off last summer, instead of borrowing one like I did the few times I went out last fall. something affordable and durable, maybe a new Mossberg 3" pump, they're pretty inexpensive and will work good enuff

Let's look down Ian's list....
1. Paint boat... -Nope, I have a camo cover. I have a pretty good hole to repair from spring goose season though!

2. Aquapod? -Don't know what it is so I guess I don't need it.... yet.

3. More decoys. -Well, I thought I had enough last season but I bought 30 last year so you never know....

4.Goose'n spots. - I know of a couple to scope out, just need the time...

5. Boundry Bay. - If I decide to hunt there, I know a guy who hunts there and maybe he'll take me!:)

6. Bust Clays. -Great idea, should go sunday. Got my skeet barrel for the SKB the other day (only took 4 months!!!). Of course I haven't shot the Browning 2 shot yet... I bought an Ithaca XL900 at the Penticton show, it was mint! Bought it for a buddy but it always feels great to buy a new gun no matter the circumstances!

7. Sneakbox? -Looked good to me when you blasted by me in the marsh. I bet it'll sell before next season (hopefully soon).

8. I need a new hunting jacket and new waders too!

I bought another Acadian Canso last week. A '65 to go with the '66 I have. Too good a car and deal to pass up. Low miler and great paint and trim, original owner too (Karl is 79). Watch for it at the trap range Dave!

I need more snowgeese gear like I need another hole in my head. I already have about 15 dozen, decoys.

Rumour has it that the snow limit has doubled. I am not sure that's a good thing. There's been some weekends, whereas I'd save a 2 day limit to clean all at once.

A 2 day limit now would be 20 geese. I am not looking forward to cleaning that.

As to chores, I need to fix my leaky boat. I found the leaks, now it's a matter of getting them fixed.

Guess I should change the oil in my leg as well.

We've already got most of the stuff we want for this coming season, I bought a 2007 Haulmark 6x10 enclosed trailer to haul all our stuff around in(pictures to come in time), but we've got so far:

1. Wad-Wizard Supreme Choke tube for my Winchester Sx2
2. Camo Chest waders from Cabelas.
3. 1 dozen ghg fullbody lesser feeders
4. 1 dozen ghg oversize shells with flocked heads
5. Bill Saunders I5-KLR lesser goose call

We plan on buying another dozen ghg hot buy mallard decoys and maybe a dozen pintails or wigeons. Big thing is gonna be to organize the trailer and get everything to to fit in there(3 laydown blinds,3 dozen shells, 2 1/2 dozen fullbodies, 6 geese floaters and a couple dozen duck decoys.

LIfe & work has been winning lately.....

Here's some answers Dano

2. Aquapod? -Don't know what it is so I guess I don't need it.... yet.

http://www.attbar.com/aquapod/specifications/aquapod_specs.htm

Don't think it's the boat for your way of hunting, but for some of the stupid stuff I do, perfect!

3. More decoys. -Well, I thought I had enough last season but I bought 30 last year so you never know....
Blasphemy! YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY DECOYS!

4.Goose'n spots. - I know of a couple to scope out, just need the time...

5. Boundry Bay. - If I decide to hunt there, I know a guy who hunts there and maybe he'll take me!
Wonder if we know the same guy?

Keep the joo joo up!

8. I need a new hunting jacket and new waders too!
Look say each monday at the following spots..
www.cabelas.com (http://www.cabelas.com)
www.basspro.com (http://www.basspro.com)
www.mackspw.com (http://www.mackspw.com)
and the biggest cheapest place to get stuff
www.sierratradingpost.com (http://www.sierratradingpost.com)

During the summer you can expect some huge savings on last years stock. We hit them right last year, saved 40% on coat and waders.

Another Canso, which one gets the shadowgrass paint job?

As promised pictures of our new trailer.Waterfowl silhouette stickers on the sides will come in time. Its wierd to think that all the stuff in our trailer now exceeds the cost of the new trailer. Looks a little full but we have our waders, coats and clothing in there to move it out if it floods, and then load away house things.... I guess you can say I have my priorities in the right order lol.

Done a bit of flyfishing so far.....much more to do yet. All the gears ready for the season though including the new mojo!.....can't wait to try that of course i got it just at the end of last years season so had to try it on the front lawn instead...works great....neighbors thought me a little weird im sure.
Oil's changed in the leg....boats repainted.....
Got lotsa training with the dog to do.....make sure he's all "brushed up"
Think he's pissed at me..........he goes fishin with me but every time some bird fly's by he looks at me like "hey stupid! get out the gun" and im more than sure he'd jump in an get my fish for me if only i'd let im.
All thats left to do now is wait......and im sure i'll see somethin else to buy too.

Heading to the Yukon in August for mountain caribou. Then after that waterfowl all winter and whatever if anything LEHs bring, and the usual blacktail and bear hunting, perhaps whitetail in Sask, not sure on that yet.
