Well I am heading out this evening for my first outing this winter for coyotes. A quick trip to the range and then a favorite spot.

I needed more of it. Called one stand for 40 mins or so with no sightings except a few mulie does and a moose. No replies to my locater howls either. :-|

On a higher note, my 223 Rem handloads shot great at the range sight-in, 55 gr. Sierra GameKing BTSP's over Hodgdon Benchmark, 3200 fps avg and good accuracy.

hope to get out again this week...

Hey Firebird, Sounds like fun. How much range you got to shoot in where you are hunting?

Where I was hunting today, it was 386 yards to the far treeline from the blind. Shots can vary from 50 yards to as far as you feel confident to shoot. If you have the equipment and skill to shoot 500 yards, this area can present you with such a shot.

500 hundred yards is a good poke for a coyote. Good luck!

Firebird, I have never been to Vanderhoof. is that like pasture land or hay fields or natural meadows? Lakes aren't froze up yet are they?

Farm land mainly, with small woodlots spread around in between. Pretty good coyote habitat.

Coyotes - 0
Firebird - 0
When you go coyote hunting and don't get one that is one for the coyotes so the way I see it, it is: Coyotes - 2
Firebird - 0

When I see a coyote out hunting and for some reason it evades me, that counts as 1 for the coyote http://www.ls2.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif When I put one on the ground, that's 1 for Firebird http://www.ls2.com/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif

Just evened the score this morning. Coyotes 1 : Farmer 1. Missed one last week that my 7 year old spotted but had one walk out behind the barn this morning. His mistake . 130gr Speer boattail in .270 stopped him in his tracks. Nice way to start the day

i have about as much luck with coyotes as i do with bears..i never see the *******s... Here here brother. Saw a grand total of 1 dog and 2 bears all year. Should move to north van I suppose to get a handle on the bear problem. Anyone got tips on sniping dogs in the fraser valley. Vanderhoof's a nice place to visit but not for a day trip;)

Had a great afternoon calling yodies in. spent 3 hours wlaking and calling managed to call 2 yodies in. 1st is still running with his hair parted between his ears, 2nd is mine. both were called within 100yrds. 2nd was shot in the neck with 40 gr rem thunderbold solid .22lr. (ruger 10/22) . i prefer to double tap the yodie in the lungs. will only go 100yds. i will get a pick in the .am .duke s'toon.sk :
