Say No to South Okanagan National Park Reserve

The BC Wildlife Federation is taking a strong stance against a
proposal to create a National Park Reserve in South Okanagan
Similkameen. The areas captured in the proposed national park include
thousands of hectares of land purchased by conservation organizations.
The BCWF does not support expropriation or the sale any of these
conservation properties to Parks Canada.

The first objective for land protection should be to ensure
biodiversity is maintained and enhanced. The current framework has
placed tourism, and other values ahead of conservation. Parks Canada
has a history of managing wilderness areas for people, tourism and
commercialization.

The BCWF supports increased protection outside these conservation
properties for a provincial park which allows traditional uses such as
hunting, hiking and camping.
