I'm thinking of buying this rifle (lefty) as my first rifle. I looked at the ruger m77 and the tikka t3, but I don't have the money to buy a new rifle so I'm resorting to buying used again.

I found this Win Mod 70 .270WSM used

"The gun is two years old bluing is 98 to 100% absolutely no bluing wear on muzzle or metal. Wood is 95% only reason I'm rating it at that is cuz it has one very very small 3/16" dent on stock opposite cheek piece. The gun has approx 60 rounds thru it 40rds factory Win 150gr PP and 20 rds 150gr Sierra reloads thru it.
I purchased it new as a replacement for my .338 Win Mag which was getting to be abit much for the ol' boy but find it abit too lite for Moose. Excellent for Elk and deer. I'm looking at stepping up to a 300WSM for my purposes. It has been gently hunted on only two occassions and been to the range three times. Other than that reason i would never let it go, this gun is super accurate with the Sierras and a joy to shoot."

THE PICS:

I've got the pics here:

My personal preference is the 30-06. It is far more versitile in the loads that available off the shelf and you can reload from 110 gr to 225 gr.

There will be a lot of people that will tell you that the .270 is the better bet as is shoots somewhat faster and therefore has a flatter trajectory. I won't argue that but in reality are you going to be making shots out to 4 or 5 hundred yards. Unless you plan on going sheep hunting, the 06 is the best all round gun. The 06 is the #1 pick by hunters in North America, followed by the .270 at #2.

Just my Humble opinion.

For just $700 + tax you can pick up a new Ruger M77 MK II in stainless/synthetic or wood/blued.

Russells Sports in Calgary lists the Rugers for $699.00, but you'd have to phone to see if the prices have gone up or not.

thanks guys, the thing is alot of stores don't have a wide variety of leftys in stock, and when they do they're usually more expensive. I looked around at reliable and italian and wholesale and the cheapest I found was at wholesale in langley (ruger m77 .30-06 lefty laminate/stainless to come to 950 in the end)

Someone else wants 750 shipped for a REm mod 700 BDL lefty

pics: http://www.fishingwithrod.com/member/gallery/derp

he says he got it in a trade and is respectable, but the pics don't look that great...

I'm thinking of saving up and getting something new, instead of getting something used as far as rifles go.

But of course you know what they say, the right side of the mind controls the left side of the body and vice versa. Therefore it only stands to reason that lefty's are the only ones really in their right minds.

haha, never heard that before.

The thing is, im right handed, but have lefty eye dominance so I'm forced to go with leftys haha:lol:

The 270wsm is a great cartrige and you cant buy new model 70s anymore, my favorite rifles are the model 70 and Id buy that rifle if it was'nt left hand, sure you can buy 30-06 ammo anywhere that because everybody has one be unique, the 270wsm has very good balistics and as well as a 270 long action will take a moose down easily, that is a beuatiful rifle imo.
