Wondering which type ear muffs you guys find comfortable at the range?
Am looking for something effective yet comfortable, but not electronic. Compact folding would be nice.

Anyone here using the 'Terminator' (29dB), Remington 'M31' (31dB),
or Remington 'M28' (28dB) models? Comments on those three?

Thx.

I use Peltor 105DB and double plug with foamies. Where's home, I may be able to get you a good deal on the peltors??

Peltor H7A for me and occasionally foamies inside if the big bores are shooting near me. I work for Acklands Grainger and this is absolutely our best seller and the range I shoot at is littered with them. The whole line is good. H7 and up are great for ranges.

Thanks guys. I see from the Peltor website that the models you have are not available at this time.

They do have a Peltor H61 which is specifically made for rifle range work. What is not clear from their site is what does the rating
H61FA / V300-GN mean in terms of dB noise reduction.

Labsafety.com sells a Peltor Optime 105 rated at 30dB NR rating, for $27.

Any feedback on either of these? Both have the foam-gel cuffs, and can be folded.

Thanks for your offer Steeleco. I will first see what is available locally (East Kootenay) and get back to you by PM if I can not find something.

Sorry Boxhitch, but the "ear muffs" in this thread aren't the same ones you're looking for.

A pair of warm thighs.

On the range I use a pair of electronic Helberg muffs (Oooohhhh those blonde Swedes again)or custom silicone plugs. The Helbergs are also not too bad for amplifying sounds in the bush.

For range work any ear muff rated NRR 27 and higher is adequate. NRR is Noise Reduction Rating and is in decibels. 1 decibel is 10 times higher than the starting number so a 30nrr is 30x better rating etc. Even then a 27NRR with a disposable foam ear plug inside as well is much more protection than you actually need. Ear muffs are designed to knock off the violent spikes that damage your ear drum but the muff must allow you to hear noises around you like someone yelling at you to get out of the way of the forklift. These are industrial protection and work very well. Double up if you want to be safe but it is not really necessary. Peltor is considered the most comfortable ear muff in the industry. H7a,H9,H10 will all allow you to keep your hearing even with cannonfire or jet turbines. Take a look out on the tarmac next time you are at the airport-everybody you see is wearing Peltors and mostly the H7a. Drop into one of the Acklands Grainger branches and grab a catalog. There is a whole section with these in it. Good luck and happy shooting. Still the warm thighs is worth a try...
