Rumors our there now that American Vet. Assoc. has recorded 4 deaths of dogs in the states where the only linking factor was Nutro dry. Menu Foods has not posted a recall of dry yet.

itchmo!seattle: SEVERAL UNCONFIRMED REPORTS OF IAMS DRY FOOD CAUSING ILLNESS 03/23/07

From Nutro's website, they claim that none of their dry food is affected, as it isn't produced by menu foods. The links you provided specify Iams food. Is that made by Nutro?

Seems to be narrowed down to wheat gluten (not the originally suspected raw meat) wheat gluten is also used in many dry foods too. Many companies also have the same suppliers sources.

From the menu foods list of recalled products:

Nutro Max (http://www.menufoods.com/recall/Dog/Nutro%20Max.htm)
Nutro Natural Choice (http://www.menufoods.com/recall/Dog/Nutro%20Natural%20Choice.htm)
Nutro Ultra (http://www.menufoods.com/recall/Dog/Nutro%20Ultra.htm)
Nutro (http://www.menufoods.com/recall/Dog/Nutro.htm)http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.html (http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.html) full list found here.

I simply posted because the new info coming in MAY help some persons pet.

I phoned Nutro and they said that their dry wasn't on the recall list. The wording was a bit disconcerting: "as far as we are concerned the dry food is safe and not on the recall list".

Maybe old moose hamburger for a few days until more news shakes out...slimey dog craps! Too bad after I finally found a food that has stopped his allergies!

I called Nutro again and asked about wheat gluten in the dry holistic foods...spoke with a guy at the manufacturing plant (call centre transfered me over to him), and he said there is NO wheat gluten in the dry. He also said to rest easy, that their dry food is safe and unaffected by everything going on around the recalls. They produce the dry at their own plants, not at Menu Foods plants.

I wouldn't be taking the risk from dry or canned from them...

when i used to run a pet food extruder, we used to add corn gluten to the dog food. allot of company's use crappy meat meal in their feed. iams is one that you couldn't give to me even if the bag came with a thousand dollars in it.

First thanks for getting the word out...I hadn't heard anything about the dry food yet...so thanks.

2nd...GEEZ! What is going on here! If its not Spinach, or Mad cow disease...its my dogs food?!

Good Grief, makes me want to have a cabin in the middle of nowhere so I can grow everything...and I mean everything myself! It's hard to trust anyone or anything anymore isn't it. Living off the grid...sounds interesting doesn't it.
