It's Gatehouse's fault.
He had one too many beer and can't cycle fast enough to generate enough power for the servers.

There are more issues than just being slow. This server needs replacing.

heyblast
10-17-2014, 07:34 PM
Okay if it needs replacing, first thing make posting pictures easy instead of the confuluted dam system it is now. And yes tonight it is slow but this week it has been okay. Last weekend was bad.

Just a bump on this.....any mods know what the issue is or does vBulletin have any updates?

A certain times it can take 15-30 seconds for a page to load. Just took almost 30 seconds to bring up this page of the thread.

Just curious.....how/where is this forum actually hosted? vBulletin does the software but do they also provide hosting?

I have been skipping HBC because of the slowness. I stopped in now just to post it is very slow... It's the site, not my computer...

yeah, interesting that the issue seems to be being avoided by the powers that be.
I don't think it would be a mod issue, but who takes care of this type of thing?

Yes it is slow for sure. Just bought a new computer and most other sites zip along tres mucho fast... HBC is s.....l.....o.....w!!

MB_Boy

One thing I have noticed is during the day......the speed is not too bad although it is still a tad slow.

It seems like prior to and after the "usual" work day is when things get bogged down. Able to navigate today at noon relatively normally but compare that to last evening as an example and it was slow as molasses. This would tend to lead one to think that it is just the traffic that is bogging things down.

Not sure how the hosting works with vBulletin particularly with HBC as to whether Marc has it on a dedicated machine, Virtual Private Server or some other webhosting option but me thinks that where/however it is being hosted that the traffic has outgrown the capabilities of the current hosting format.

I know Marc isn't around too much these days but "if" Spink is still involved in the back end administration I dropped him a PM with a link to this thread.

Seems to have improved

Some days fast some slow. At 3 AM its working good.

Slinky Pickle

I try to check in on this site regularly but the slowness is brutal. 15 to 30 seconds to load a forum page... that's nuts. By contrast, it takes me 2 - 3 seconds to load a page on other "similar" sites.

Dig into it boys, something's screwed up in bit land.

elkhunterette
11-03-2014, 08:45 PM
Really slow this evening!

Sofa King
11-03-2014, 08:54 PM
it's ridiculous really.
does nobody care?
why is there nothing being done to rectify this?

Some news- HBC has been getting invaded by some sort of spammer. The website guy has been working on it, and is continuing to do so.

elkhunterette
11-04-2014, 04:41 PM
It really boggels the mind, what would a spammer have to gain by invading this website other than ticking a lot of people off!

Hoping to upgrade to a faster and bigger server this week, HuntingBC has again outgrown its server and needs to move to a bigger home.

Thanks for your patience.

I noticed the delay when the sponsors banner is loading. As soon as it loads everything else pops up on screen quickly. It is probably a gif base with some corrupt or large downloads.
I hate flashing gifs for this reason.

As a website hosting company owner, I know vbulletin can be tuned to run much faster. I assume you've had someone do some tuning before paying for more server? Not that servers are terribly expensive, but a properly tuned software makes a big difference in performance.

I noticed that it pauses until the sponsor banner loads as well, then everything comes through.

Seems like that script is timing out... either an outbound connection or dns resolution timeout... could even be on the sponsor side.

Been a systems engineer for a web hosting company for 11 years. PM me if you need a hand.

caddisguy
11-19-2014, 07:27 PM
You sure that it's outgrown the server? What is the load average?

And is bottle neck memory, cpu or disk IO?

lostmind
11-21-2014, 05:43 PM
Possibly just needs some tuning.

Could fix up browser cache to reduce requests and speed up repeat visits perhaps.

Could look into varnish, memcache, apc. Maybe switch to mariadb or percona. Seen all of them work very well with vbulletin.

Perhaps a small alternative webserver for static content?

But it's all just guesses without any info...

Averaging 12-15 second page loads for me though, in port moody on shaw. 2 second time to first byte as well, which is not good.
