Holy crap! Do you have some sort of midas touch? I'm uber jealous, and now you're making a great case for being a bachelor, but no fishing is THAT good.

So do you think you'll make it to the end of the day without getting booted again? How was the battle on the short rod? Is that the only one you hooked up on yesterday?

Tinney

We hooked up with three but I was the only one to land a fish. I couldn't believe the pull....twice as hard as the last one. They are truly amazing fighters.

Well that is a pretty lame statement. Thats like saying to a nascar driver there is no skill involved in driving a car at fast speeds.

Sure if you think icefishing is sitting around on a bucket like our dads and grandfathers did and waiting for a bite...then yes not much skill involved in that. However the icefisher of today has to move, move, move till you locate fish, then when you find them you have to vary your size, shape, color, triggering techniques, presentation etc. When I icefish I'm like a flyfisher and try and match up things. I have sometimes drilled up to 250 holes to locate the fish, then have to find something that will trigger them. At least in softwater it is easier to move around. When I'm icefishing I'm never cold...to much of a workout moving.

Icefishing is very big in Europe. If you make the Icefishing team there its like making the NHL here. Sure its not big here in North America but please look at the global picture.

I'm sure you didn't know that generally every year there is the World Icefishing Champiopnships (WIFC). This year it was held in Poland. They were going to hold it on Feb 24/25 and Canada was going to go (including yours truly) however Canada had to pull out as the world icefishing federation might have to cancel due to no ice. So we decided in a couple weeks before that Canada would withdraw its team. Then they changed the date to Mar 9/10. We still didn't go as then not enough time to get clothing etc in order. Here is the link if you would like to look www.icefishing.pl (http://www.icefishing.pl)

Please don't tell me this is a forum that is full of snobby flyfishers that think icefishers are just skum and use no skill in catching fish. I respect flyfishers and expect the same back.

Skill is what you make of it in any sport....anyone can tie a fly on the end of his line and toss it around, no skill in that...but to consistantly catch fish then some skill is involved. Same with icefishing.

Sorry for getting off topic but it irks me when I see uneducated posts about the sport of icefishing like that on here.

Nice fish Tinney and good to know he was released:)

I'm a flyfisher as well and all I'm saying is skill can be whatever you make it. Lets show each other a little respect:) .

Careful TGF, these boys don't play nice

Sealevel, lake trout are not bottom fish. I caught all those fish about a foot off the bottom in 40 FOW. Air temp was warmer than water temp for all three so I figure the 2 I did release are still going strong.

Oh and TGF, I don't waste my time explaining to the membership here why true icefishing is only for the skilled. They don't care.

Don't worry about some silly talk. I love icefishin and I got some freinds that poke fun at me too. At the end of the day they are sour because they were doing house work when we were out on the lake.
