This message just in from VP of BCWF Vancouver Island Region

Hi All,
This will be that last reminder going out before the 2014 BCWF Region .
The AGM will be held at the Courtenay F & G Club grounds this year on March 15th and 16th. This is a two day event and there will be a banquet and fundraiser on Saturday night. There will be room for RV parking if you want to bring yours.
This is your opportunity to have a say in what's going in in the Region this year. We need your input as to how you want to see the Region go forward this year. We really want and need to see representation from all the member clubs in Region 1. Even if you can only send a delegate for one of the days it's important the you do send someone. There are some resolutions going to the BCWF AGM in Kelowna this year that could have huge implications to our clubs and we need your input as to how the Region uses their votes there.
We have two excellent speakers who will be in attendence this year. Neil Fletcher, from the BCWF will be speaking on Wetlands projects and Billy Wilton, from the MOE will be speaking on Elk on Vancouver Island and will probably answer any of your questions that have to do with the MOE
asd what's happening on Vancouver Island.
In addition, we'll have reports from our committee chairs on Access, Tidal Water Fisheries, Fresh Water Fisheries, Firearms, BCWF as well as a few other committees and you'll have an opportunity to ask questions.
Elections of the 2014 Region Executive will take place on Sunday afternoon. Each year we elect one President, two Vice Presidents, one Treasurer and four Directors. There will be several opportunities over the weekend to nominate people for these positions and we welcome any interest you or your club members may have in letting names stand.
If you need directions to the club you can contact me and I'll make sure that you are provided with instructions on how to get there.
Looking forward to seeing you all.
Dave Parenteau
Vice President
BCWF Vancouver Island
Region Assn.

What exactly will the Ministry be talking about in regards to island elk?

The biologist (Bill Wilton) gave an EXCELLENT presentation on the status of Region 1 elk. (includes the adjacent mainland) Recruitment in different zones, hunter success, population estimates and trends, predation, future plans for relocations etc. Some cool pics they had taken, including one of a cat trying to take down a cow... apparently the cat got "relocated" too before it could do too much damage to the cow elk.

In general, with the exceptions of a couple of poaching "hotspots" the 5000 or so elk on the Island and adjacent mainland are doing well.
