well soon it will be time although a few souls are already kickin the cat.
My trip down the cow is week 1 of may with joe saysell (river guide) and i was wondering what line most fish for the steel head in the area.

I have an 8 wt fenwick hmx and a teton salt water series 8 wt reel currently backed at 20# with wf8sinking tip and an wf8floating

but really i know nothing about flying on the river including flies size weight and patterns

Pls help

Depends on water conditions. May is too late for SH. All of them that you might see around will be boots. I'd target the Big Brown trout and resident Rainbows in may.

I use a 8 weight dry line with long leaders for Winter/Spring SH. Then switch to a 5 weight floating or one with a 10ft sink tip.

Lots of deep holes with tail-outs in the upper cowichan.
